If you love hiking and want to immerse yourself in the wild and authentic nature of the Alps, this trek in Alta Valle Maira is perfect for you. The route is moderately challenging but does not involve any technical difficulties. The only requirement is a reasonable level of fitness, as each stage includes an elevation gain between 900 and 1000 meters, with an average of 5 hours of walking per day.
You’ll also be able to hike with just a light day pack, as no heavy loads are required for the daily excursions. This makes the experience more accessible and less physically demanding, allowing you to fully enjoy the stunning landscapes.

What to Expect: Valle Maira Trek Day by Day
DAY 1 – Saturday, July 5
Provenzale/Castello Loop with Ascent to Monte Eighier
We’ll meet our guide in Valle Maira and set off directly from Rifugio Campo Base for our first day hike: a stunning circular route around the Provenzale/Castello group, with an optional ascent to Monte Eighier. After the hike, we’ll return on foot to the rifugio, where a warm dinner and cozy overnight stay await us.
DAY 2 – Sunday, July 6
Piergiorgio Frassati Trail & Monte Soubeyran Hike
After breakfast, we’ll take a short 10-minute drive to the village of Saretto, the starting point of our second hike: a scenic route along the Piergiorgio Frassati Trail, with an optional ascent to Monte Soubeyran. At the end of the hike, we’ll return to the cars and say our goodbyes after a weekend full of adventure and discovery.
The entire tour is conducted in English.
